Wheelbot
Designed for the Transitions Foundation of Guatemala.
A wheelchair-inspired robot toy that promotes mobility and wheelchair acceptance in the individual and wider community.
Rebecca, from Transitions, approached UTS about developing a children’s toy that is easy to recreate by anyone in Guatemala. This toy is intended to reflect children's own mobility, and shows they are capable and independent.

The design encompasses Transition’s philosophy - the wheelchair is an integrated part of the child that allows them to freely move. The Wheelbot can be interacted with in both standing and sitting positions, being inclusive of all children with different levels of mobility, and de-stigmatising wheelchair use.
The final prototype utilises items already available on the market, along with scrap wood and metal to create a simple yet engaging toy for children.
